The Gyrokinesis Method

“The nature of things are to move. Life is movement and an expression of existence is movement.”
Juliu Horvath

What is the Gyrokinesis Method?
Gyrokinesis is a movement method that was created by ballet dancer Juliu Horvath in the 1980’s to cope with injuries from dancing. Therefore the focus is about moving in circular and spiraling movements to avoid compression in the joints, which is very accessible to movers of all levels. This method is influenced by a range of practices like qi gong, tai chi, yoga, swimming, and dance to fully enhance our mind/body connection.
Classes begin sitting on a stool with self-massage and spinal motion sequences along with different breathing patterns. The class continues with movement sequences on the floor and standing. You will learn how to relieve pressure in the joints, mobilize tight areas, and find strength and length simultaneously to provide better support for the whole body.

Workshop Description:
This workshop will be interactive in the sense you will have the opportunity to reflect on movement sequences by jotting down your thoughts to connect and record your mind and body’s needs and instincts.
This is a chance to explore areas and sequences that resonate with you the most so that you can begin or continue these movements in your daily life.

Therefore, we will:
• Have a deeper look at the anatomical body
• The chance to reflect on why might be held in certain areas
• The opportunity to pay attention to what feels useful and what we like to remember outside of the class

What to bring:
• Comfortable clothes to move in
• Water bottle
• Journal and a pen

Agenda:
• Quick journal/mental prompt: ‘What do we want to focus on and/or let go today?’
• Part 1: self massage, spinal motions and breathing patterns
• Small break, notes / reflection
• Part 2: floor and standing work
• Notes / reflection / questions
